THE RUGBY AMALGAMATION.

The following is the voting on the amalgamation question, which was decided on at a special meeting of delegates from the liorowhenua and Manawatu Rugby districts, held in Levin this week: — For:—-Paraparaimm 2, Waikanae 1, Otaki 4, Ilui Mai 3, Knku 1, Shannon 4, Miraniti 2, Tokomaru 2, Motttoa 1. Foxlon 3, Awahou 2, County 2. a total of 27. Against:—Weraroa 4. Wanderers 4, L.D.TI.X. 2, tt total of 10. Majority for the proposal 17. MANAWATU ENDORSES AMALGAMATION. . On Tuesday night it special meeting of the Manawatu Rugby Union confirmed tiie fusion of the Horowhenna and Manawatu Unions. The chairman (Mr. A. Hannay) said that fusion with liorowhenua was the lilies! thing that had ever happened to football in both districts. As they were aware, tiie tendency was for the larger unions to coniine (heir representative fixtures |o themselves, and the Manawatu wits not big enough to play against them on it own. What the Union was out for was big football and tiie amalgamation with Uorowhouiia would enable them to put a team in the field that could stand up against tiie representatives of any Union in New Zealand. Tiie outlook of tiie sub-unions (Orouu and Te Kuwait) would be greatly improved 100, and the speaker, in referring to recent matches in which they had figured was fully convinced they had players worthy of being brought out to compete in the big representative matches of tiie future. The proposals showed that a fair thing had been done as far as Horowhenun was concerned, Manawatu having a slight advantage in the matter of representation. Mr Hannay Imped the meeting realised this was the greatest step that had ever been taken for rugby in this district. He then formally moved that the m rangements made bv tiie delegations of the two unions he confirmed. This was seconded by Mr A. S. Fa ire, a vice-president of tiie M.R.F.F.. who took a leading part in the negotiations. Considerable discussion followed upon the position of the Te Kuwait and Orouu sub-unions, their delegates asking for direct represent a lion on the combined management eommillee, and the Manawatu delegates replying that they would have a voice in appointing the Manawatu delegates to the combined committee. Eventually it was agreed that the sub-unions should appoint direct representatives to tlie Manawatu Committee, without votes, until tiie rules could he altered to give them permanent representation on the Manawatu ! 'ommittec. The motion agreeing to the amalgamation was then pul and carried amidst loud applause. FIXTURES 27th JUNE. SENIOR. Wanderers v. Foxton, at Levin, T. Barata. Weraroa v. Otaki at Otaki. L.
