DISTRIBUTING THE POWER, The report presented by (he Engineer, Mr Overton, to the Power Board last week was as follows: — Line construction. —The No. 1 wire gang working from Shannon have run out 410 chains of low tension wire—erected 15 service lines and 8 sets of earthed guards and renewed damaged wire on Tokomam 11,000 volt line caused bv telephone contact and the men have been employed patrolling the lines from Shannon on several occasions during the recent rough weather. The 75 K.Y.A. transformer in the Shannon sub-station has been installed and the three temporary ones returned to the Manawatu-Or-oua Power Board. The 350 K.Y.A. transformer at Seifert's mill has been completed and the 50 K.Y.A. dismantled. Whitanui scutching sheds near Foxton have also been cut in.
No. 2 Wire Gang.—Have run 528 chains of low tension rvire and S service lines including the heavy low tension and service to Nye’s mill erected 22 low tension poles and extended the street lighting circuit in Foxton in order to take an additional lamp. The isolating switch on the Levin-Koputaroa line was also installed.
No. 5 Wire Gang. —This gang has been cut down to three men and employed on service lines anywhere between Manakau and Foxton Heads, they have run out 492 chains of low tension and completed 22 service lines. Sub-station Fitters. —Five transformer platforms have been built during the month and the following new sub-stations livened up: — Petheriek’s, Paraparaumu: Porotawliao, Levin-Foxton road: Knikanui road, Tokomaru; Seifert’s Mill, Shannon. Workshop.—Two 11,000 volt panels and two 11.000 volt isolating switches have been completed. Garage work has been more than usual during the month. From the load analysis herewith you Avill observe that 112 new consumers have been added since last month. The more important consumers connected are: — Whitanui Flaxmill, 50 h.p. Boy’s Training Farm, Weraroa, 200 lights. Grand Hotel, Levin, 74 lights. G. Langley, Paeknkariki, 7.5 h.p. motor. Contracts and Supplies.—The principle items received during the month were 4 tons galvanised telephone wire, 1750 llJJOft volt insulators, 4000 feet of tallowood, 3 miles T.B. Avire, 150 iron poles and 18 ranges. The following were delivered to consumers: —5 McClarv ranges, 5 Moffat rangers, 18 water heaters, and 10 motors. During the week our stores of hare wire havo practically run down. We have orders uoav overdue and I have urged the firm to press forAvard delivery. At the same time I consider it advisable to order an additional seven tons from Australia for delivery in three weeks, subject to the Board’s confirmation. Ranges are being absorbed rapidly and T Avould advise authority he given to purchase 10 Moffat ranges when suitable opportunity offers.
