CORRESPONDENCE.

(To The Editor). Sir, —In your issue of Thursday appears a report of the meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby Union, and a paragraph therein appeals to me in more ways than one, and that is lhe charge of disgusting language alleged to be used against a spectator last Saturday by a Committeeman of the Horowhenua Union. The explanation given at the meeting by the user of the language is a deliberate falsehood, but occasions no cause for surprise. What concerns me most is the queer sense of justice as propounded by that Union when it accepts such an explanation as tendered. It means that a committeeman can go on the football field and blackguard all and sundry, including players, as happened last Saturday; in other words lie can do as he likes providing- he is a comniiiteeman. What a queer conception of duly as interpreted by l tie ilorowhetma Union, nioreso ns they have the power on the repovt of their representatives to haul up a spectator who may so offend. The sooner this queer body is put out of existence the better, and the time ia close at hand when this peculiar Union will be absorbed into other Unions more capable of understanding their functions, and duties, both to the players, and the spectators (who are the ones who find the necessary funds to keep the game alive), and protect their supporters from tactics that may become au officer's “boots’-' but which may not always be tolerated by clean-mind-ed people. —Yours etc., E G. MARTIN.
