A sequel to heavy Hoods in December, when the bursting of a dam at • Lansdowne caused considerable damage to residential properly, came before the Borough Conned this ('veiling, when the Town Clerk announced that ho had been served with five writs, the total amount claimed being £lOOl. The plaintiffs arc Thomas Bacon .€307, T). K. Logan C 152, M. C. Marshall €2OO. I. A. Wadliam €OOO, and M. TT. Fly €2OO. Tin* defendants are the Mayor, councillors and burgesses of Mastirton, the chairman, councillors and inhabitants of Masterton Comity, and the trustees in the estate of the late Mrs A. P. Williams: namely, H. 0. Williams, (!. C. Williams. Mrs E. A. Russell (London), and Mrs. M. A. Burge (Wales). Tiie claim is made against the J. fondants jointly and severally and in the alternative, action is taken against the three parties of : lie following grounds:
la) The Maslerton Borough, as being the occupier and user of the hind on which the dam i.- situated. (b) The Maslerton County, for alterations to the dam which, it is alleged, weakened the structure.
(e) Against tin' trustees, as the owners of the laud. The council decided to defend •he action and to engage senior counsel. Many owners whose property was damaged at the time have not lodged claims.
