DOG REGISTRATION.
FEE FOR RABBITERS. Cr. Fagan, at the meeting of the Alanawatu County Council, stated that many complaints had been made to him by owners of dogs allegedly kept for the purpose of rabbit destruction, that a fee of Ills for such dogs was too much, and that they should not be called upon to pay this amount. He suggested that a fee of 2s 0d be charged for registration. The collector of dog taxes, All*. Berry, replied that some owners he had visited had a curious knack of calling every sporting dog about the place a “rabbiter,” but on the other hand the majority, of dog owners had already paid the 10s fee. It was further pointed out that rabbit dogs in the Alanawatu county were not necessary under the present method of eradicating the rabbit pest.
The Council was favourable to a compromise to owners until the Clerk drew the Council's attention iu the fact that the position could not be altered this year, as the Council had already advertised its registration fees. The Council, agreed that no action would be taken at present to relieve owners of paying the registration fees already decided on for this year by resolution.
