A unique sight was witnessed by a -correspondent of the .Southland Times in the shape of a second season’s crop of new potatoes, grown by Air .lames M'cKereher, the Grove, Woodlands. The lirsl crop was lifted in .January, and the second crop sown a little later. The tubers, while not large, are linn and line eating, and show what can he done in Southland. This is the. first time the correspondent has heard of a second crop being lifted in May in Woodlands.
Rather than interrupt an operation in which lie was taking part, a. London hospital doctor delayed treating a wound which lie received from the patient's teeth, and, in consequence, sacrificed his life. This was revealed at the inquest on Basil Stanley Llewellyn, aged 37 years, who was third assistant medical oflicer at St. Stephen's Hospital. Dr. Sandiland, medical superintendent of the hospital, said that Dr. Llewellyn was giving an anaesthetic to a woman undergoing an operation, when he cut his linger oir her teeth. The woman's mouth v.as septic. Inti he continued to ndminislcd the anaesthetic until the completion of the operation two hours later. He then treated the wound with iodine. A fortnight later Dr. Llewellyn had developed general sepsis. Blood tranfusion was carried out. a member of the medical staff volunteering his blond, without avail.
