COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL.
PRESENTATION TO AIR. AND AIRS DELAXY. There was a large and representative gathering of people of Foxton and district at a complimentary social and presentation tendered to Air and Airs Delany by the Foxton Chamber of Commerce and Retailers Association in the Afasonic Hall on Tuesday evening, on the occasion of Air Delany's retirement on Superannuation trom the Postal service. The gathering was presided over by the mayor I Air AL E. Perreau). The Alnyor, in opening the proceedings. stated that he was very pleased indeed to see such a representative gathering present which showed the esteem in which Mr Delany and his family were held. He said that Air. Delany had carried out his duties in a most pleasing and courteous manner which the townspeople fully appreciated, whilst Mrs and Miss Delany aid always been willing and ready to help at anv social function. JJis Worship then called on Air B. Walls' orchestra to open the proceedings and said he wanted everyone to in* jolly and happy which they carried out to the letter. At interval, during the evening Messrs P. L. Bollings, Tongs (Retailers Association), Ad'more (Chamber of Commerce), Rev. father Me Dinrmid and D. Christie (Bowling Club) made eulogistic references to the good work done by Mi Delany and also extended a welcome to Mr J. Newton, the newly appointed Postmaster. Just before supper, the Mayor presented Air Delany with an easy chair and Afrs Delany with a hand
hag mi behalf of the citizens of Foxton. In doing so he said the citizens of Foxton did not want to lose Mr Delany and were glad in learn that In* had decided to remain in Foxton. He was a useful member oi society, ami would he ghotlv welcomed into civic life. Atr Delany, in replying, said that lie had done nothing to warrant sm-h kindly remarks and treatment a> had been meted out to himself ml family that night. He had. in business, treated all alike, and tried • o give the public the service they Demid receive. He had decided to stav in Foxton. and sincerely thanked those present for the kindness extended to him and his family which they would ever remember. "For They are Jolly Hood Fellow" was then sung, and cheers given for [he guest of file evening. Supper was then handed round, after which dancing was indulged in. During the evening vocal items were rendered by Afrs L. Bullard and Alessrs D. R. Barron, B. Hinds, and S. Head, Alisses E. Patterson and Delany playing the accompaniments. Competitions were won by .Miss M. Kirkland, Air Tongs, and Miss Spring.
