The annual meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society was advertised for last Tuesday night in the Town Hall Rest Room, but owing to the small attendance was adjourned after the annual report and balance sheet had been read. The meeting was presided over by llie President (Rev. \Y. IT. Walton) and also present were Messrs Pools, Patterson, I). Christie, and Mesdanics Barr, Healey and McMnrray and Misses Ross and Speirs and the secretary (Mrs Moore). ANNUAL REPORT. Tin* annual report was read as follows: — "Your committee has pleasure in

Perryman and Airs Moore, Collecting Committee: Messrs Perreau, J. K. Ilornhlow, C. IT. Symons mid Miss Ross. Seven committei
meetings were held during the year with an average attendance of 1 2. The school work, which had been cut out of the schedule the two previous shows was resumed at the lastSpring show and proved to he of great interest to children and parents. The financial result shows an increase in the credit balance against last year, though the committee were rather afraid of the inverse, as the November show clashed with local carnival eltorts. This result was due to the increased membership and to extra donations. From a spectacular [mint of vi< w the shows were also a success, a> better arrangement and in - creased space for the exhibits was on improvement. The one class on ; )n* schedule that does not seem to improve as regards entries is the fancy-work section. Some very good work was entered, but the number of exhibits does not pay its prize-money. A special feature at the November Show was very line exhibition work done by Mrs (Toucher which attracted special attention. The commit lee’s thanks
are due io those who generously donated to the society's funds, and to those who worked to make Ihe shows a success. The balancesheet shows a credit of £l4 2s sd. Hi-v. Walton said that lie was not ptepared to accept, the position as l‘i esident again this year. ITe considered there were plenty of men in the town who would make excellent presidents to the Society but the lack of interest evoked in the society was appalling. lie was of opinion that the meeting should move a motion that the Foxton Horticultural Society become defunct. Tin it ion would have to lay on the table for one month and it no further interest was aroused then the society would go out of action. Mr Patterson said that the meeting- was out of order. The rules distinctly said that the annual meeting had to be held in May. As a matter of fart the officers were all out. of olliee.
The secretary explained that, the annual meeting bad been put off on several occasions to enable a certain member to be present and tint! member had arranged another meeting on the very night oi' the Society's annual meeting and i-onseipieiitly was not present now. Miss Boss said that the balancesheet showed that interest was beingtaken in the society. There was a good credit balance. The President said that it was all very well for people just to come along to the shows and congratulate them on the exhibition or even give a donation. Wliat they wanted was workers. Year after year the work was left to the same one or I wo. Airs .Moore intimated that she was also unable to lake up the office of secretary for another term. .Members considered that the pom- attendance at the meeting was perhaps due to counter attractions that night. .Mr Christie proposed that the meeting be adjourned for one week and undertook to find a president for the society in the meantime. This was agreed to and the meeting adjourned.
