Air W. Kilsliy, of Levin, was llio victim of a nasty mid unusual accident at the beginning 1 of the week. Tie was attending a rnhhish (ire at his residence and it is presumed gathered up with some loose paper a detonator. When tin’s was put into the fire it exploded. Mr Kilshy being- alongside, fragments of tin* case indicted painful wounds on the elieek, hand and ley, that on the hand being the worst. (Chronicle). At the Palmerston Magistrate's Court R. Moynihan, hotel manager, of Shannon, proceeded against Annie Charcher, also of Shannon, under the Police Offences Act, alleging that the defendant had wilfully trespassed upon his property and refused to leave it after having been warned to do so. He asked that she be called upon to give up possession. Mr Cooper appeared for the plaint iff, and explained th/ll the plainlilf owned a house in which th'o defendant had been residing. After hearing the plaintiff's evidence, the Magistrate imposed a fine of .Co in default I I days’ imprisonment.
A land sale was held in the Maoriland Theatre, Shannon, on Wednesday afternoon when the Linley Farm at Mouloa was submitted at auction on hclmlf of the executors of the late .]. Smith by the X.Z. Loan Co. The estate comprising HU acres was sub-diveded into four sections. There was only a small atlondnm-e of the public Only one section, comprising 73.} acres, was sold, Mr W. Ryder, of Levin, being the purchaser at .CSS per acre after keen competition. The homestead block of s(i acres was passed at £BB opr acre. Lots 4 and 3 of 33 acres and 27 acres was passed at CSS per acre. Lois acre. Two town properties at Fox ton also failed lo reach the vendors’ price. The Indies of the local Presbyterian Church held a most successful social afternoon and salt- of work on Wednesday in the Masonic Hall. A special feature of the afternoon wns the cake Stall. Each lady in addition to assisting with other stalls linked delicious cakes for sale. A special word of thanks is due to the lady who so generously givess o much time and work each year in linking up a twenty five pound hag of Hour. Needless to say the cake stall is always well patronised and the l a kings amounted to £2l. odd. The Guild and Produce stalls were also attractive and did good business. The Indies of the church wish to thank all those who in any way assisted them in making the afternoon such n success. Thanks are also due to ihe ladies who supervised the ..afternoon ten so well, and attended so willingly to everyone in the Hall.
