ANZAC DAY CELEBRATIONS.
On Friday, Anzac Day was observed at the local State school. The flag was flown half-mast, and tlie children assembled in the grounds and hymns were sunk. An address was given by Rev. F. McDonald, at the conclusion of which wreaths were placed under the stone slab containing the names of the ex-pupils of the school who gave their lives in the Great War. After the service the children were dismissed. Prayers were given by Rev. W. H. Walton, and a portion of Scripture read by Captain Stone. There was a large attendance at the Town Hall on Saturday afternoon at the Anzac Day service. A parade of returned soldiers, headed by the local Silver Baird, proceeded from the Post Office to the Town Hall. The service was presided over by Rev. W. H. Walton, and the singing was led by the Silver Band. Rev. F. McDonald delivered a very line address appropriate to the occasion, his theme being “Sacrifice.” The Mayor (Mr J. Cbrystall) gave an appropriate address on the memory of the day. A passage from Ilth Hebrews was then read by Captain Stone, of the Salvation Army. At the conclusion of the service tbe returned men paraded at the soldiers' monument, where they deposited two magnificent wreaths. Tbe base of the monument was coveted with wreaths from relatives and friends of fallen soldiers. The "Lust Post" was sounded by Bugler B. Walls.
