CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —I have carefully read “Introsprct's tirade, and have failed to find anythin”- of an enlightening nature therein. He awkwardly tried to dodge the questions I put to him, and he has failed to put up a decent ease even. The onlv thing lie has added si a charge of cowa dice against our leading citizens, for he says they will take no part in public 'affairs. Like a gassed rabbit, he gasps for air, hence his appeal to Holland. Really, the tone of his letter is more in keeping with Ms friends in Moscow. My reply will be brief, and as follows: T challenge “Introspect” to meet me in public, the subject for debate to he mv letters to the “Herald” and his reply to them, the public to judge between us, the meeting to take place prior to the Council elections. New then, Introspect, here is your chance. Have you the courage to take it? -Just hand your bona tides to a responsible citizen, and 1 will do the same, and then 1 will undertake to again endeavour to enlighten you on the subjects of my letters, which you have utterly failed to refute. I don’t mind you throwing ink at me, but I would impress upon you the fact that “deeds speak louder than words.” Now, “Tntrospectski,” if you really think you have an argument worth while, you cannot refuse my challenge, and I await next issue to see your acceptance of the same. For “Awal„ni’s” benefit and surprise, I plead oailty to being a ratepayer; that is all there is to reply to in lus letter. As far as “Introspect’s” letter is concerned, his quotation of Scripture ill-becomes him.” —Yours, etc., PROGRESS.
