HEMP MARKET.
MARCH GRADING RETURNS,
The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of March have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: —
Two bales at Blenheim were graded superline and 56 bales at Pic ton and 16 at Blenheim fine. Forty one bales at Auckland, 102 at Pox ton, 51 at Wellington, two at Blenheim, three at Lyttleton 6 at Blulf were rejected and 7 bales at Lyttleton condemned. The following shows the number ot bales graded at each port, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: —Superfine 2 (nil), line 72 (72), good fair 1085 (1240), high fair 6007 (4606), low lair 8910 (1698), common 277 (118), rejected 205 (125), condemned 7 (5), a total of 11,524 bales as against. 7,854 for the same month last year being an increase of 3,670 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was as follows:—Auckland 8218, Pox lon 2606, Wairoa 184, Wellington 8427, Picton 68, Blenheim 183, Lyttleton 194, Dunedin 199, Ft. Chalmers 282, Blulf 127.8.
The following shows the deluded particulars of the tow graded: — (i. ports Ist. 2nd. Brd
at Poxton, 1.8 at Wellington, seven at Lyttelton and one at Bluff were condemned. The numlber of bales graded at each port was as follows: — Auckland 902, Poxton 515, Wairoa 22, Wellington 832, Picton 27, Blenheim 78, Lyttleton 181, Dunedin 15, Pt. Chalmers 12.3, Blult 45/. The following shows the number of bales in each grade the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: —Ist grade 459 (317) 2nd grade 2012 (1101), 3rd grade 562 (177), condemned (59 (66), a totiil of 3102 bales as against 1751 last year, being an increase of 1351 bales. Stripper Tow. —One hundred and twenty nine bales at Wellington were graded 2nd grade and fifteen bales condemned, making a total of 144 bales as against 220 graded for the corresponding month last year. Stripper Slips. —Seventeen bales tit Auckalnd were graded Ist grade, twenty nine bales at Auckland, forty-six at Poxton, 8 at Wairoa, 88 at Wellington and 95 at Bluff were graded 2nd grade, seven bales at Auckland, and 37 at Bluff passed or export, injfl 17 (tales at Auckland, one at Lyttelton and 25 at Bluff were condemned, making a total of 370 bales as against 5 graded last year.
