HIGHWAYS BOARD AND BOROUGHS.

The question as to whether the Main High ways Board would subsidise work done by borough Councils on main highways passing through their boroughs has for some time past been a much debated question. It has been of particular local interest, as Johnston Street, the greater portion of which lias recently been tar sealed, was declared a main highway. Mr J. Linklater, M.P., informed our representative yesterday that bis overtures to the Board on liehalf of Borough Counoils bad at last bourne fruit, and the Board had decided to assist all boroughs with populations of less than 6,000 in this direction.
