GAS WORKS.
FEBRUARY WORKING. The gas manufactured during the month of February was 376,800 ft., which with the amount in the holder on Marcli Ist, leaving 20,200 ft., a total of 390,800 ft. The total amount for the corresponding month of last year was 483,700 ft. During the month 336,200 ft was used bv consumers, I,oooft in street lamps, 21,000 ft. at the works, and there was 12,400 ft. in the holder on March! st., leaving 370,600 ft., representing 5.1 per cent., unaccounted for. During the month 35 tons of coal was carbonised, yielding 10,765 c. ft. to the ton and producing 8 tons of coke. The expenditure for the month totalled £242 3s Id, and was made up as follows: —coal £99 6s 6d, salaries and wages £42 10s 2d, fittings £7 0s 2d, working expenses 7s lOd, printing and advertising £6 10s Od, engine repairs and oil £1 19s Od, repairs £l2 10s Od, insurances £2 12s lOd, cartage and freight £2 5s 2d, stores £1 9s 6d, house £3 18s Od, sundries £2 2s Od, interest and sinking fund £59 11s Bd. The earnings for the mouth totalled £253 2s 4d, and were made up as follows:—gas sales (lighting) £73 2s 3d, heat and power £99 19s sd, coke sales £l6 4s 2d tar sales £4B 11s Od, weighing £2 16s (id. coal £l2 Is Od, miscellaneous Bs.
GAS MANAGER’S REPORT. At last night’s council meeting the gas manager reported as follows: — iJQi “The apparatus at the works is in fairly good order and working quite satisfactorily. There has been a good deal of work done outside and it is being done as time permits. Mr Carey, the stoker, has applied for his annual holidays and arrangements have been made to carry on, subject to the council’s approval.—Adopted.
