AN UNFORTUNATE MISTAKE.
POISON FOR COUGH MIXTURE.
Air Edward Berry, engineer, of Aslilev Street, Palmerston North, swallowed a quantity of irritant poison in mistake for cough mixture on Tuesday evening (says the Times), and he us now confined tv Ins bed in a critical state.
Earlier in the day Airs Berry procured an acid In mi her father-in-law', for the purpose of bathing a small wound, and alter using it, she placed it amongst the other medicine bottles. Her -husband, who was working until shortly before, nine, was suffering a cold, and took what be thought was cough mixture. bill before be discovered bis mistake lie bad swallowed a large dose of the poisonous liquid. His wife, hearing a call for help, iiuinediatelv surmised what bad taken place, and called for medical attention.
Antidotes were immediately administered, but the condition of Mi Berry was reported as critical last night.
