DROWNING ACCIDENT.
Wanganui, April 6. Yesterday morning Constable Willets, of Waitotara, and some lads named Newman, Train and Reimenschneider, also Mr Rowe sen., set out from Waitotara on a lishing expedition in a 30ft. boat, which was abandoned by the steamer Port Caroline on a rough night when some of the crew attempted to rescue a seaman who had jumped overboard. Great anxiety prevailed last night when the Waitotara party failed to return. The monuing was calm, but a strong westerly sprang up. It was presumed that the set of the tide would carry the boat well down the coast, and this proved correct, for a message was received from Wangaehu this morning that the boat had capsized in the breakers, and one of the party, whose name is not stated, had been drowned. The Wanganui police immediately sent out a relief party to bring in the survivors. Later. It was the lad Reimenschneider who was drowned in the fishing boat disaster.
