BOWLING.
VISIT TO OTAKI GREEN. Yesterday afternoon three rinks from Fox ton made the trip to Otaki to play a return visit to that Club. The Otaki green is pleasantly situated, being invitingly set in surroundings of native trees and flowers, and the playing area itself presents a remarkably green appearance, quite in contrast to the local green at the present time. In consequence of the excellent turf, Fox ton bowlers found it somewhat hard to measure the strength of the green, and even after play had been carried on for some time, could not adapt themselves with any confidence to the prevailing conditions.
However, this fact did not detract to any extent from the thoroughly enjoyable afternoon’s play, and it is quite safe to say that yesterday’s outing was one of the best that has been undertaken this season. Before the commencement of play, Mr Freeman (president), on behalf of Otaki Club, welcomed the visitors, and wished them a pleasant afternoon’s sport. If was agreed to’ play two games of fourteen heads. The following arc the details: — Freeman, Hnwcu, McGill, Oliver 11, v. Pearson, Healey, Thomson. Huntley (s) 11. Baxter, Nicholson, O'Rourke, Smiih (s) 15, v. Spring, Downes, Walls, Xve ( s) 12.
Bax, Moor, Wilmot. Noble (s) *2O, v. Jas. Ross, Winstanley, Walker, Barr (s) 7. Second Round:- —Olliver (s) 11 v. P.arr (s) 10: Xve (s) IS v. Noble (-1 11; Smith (s) 18 v. Thomson is) 8.
Tims otaki had four wins and a rie in the matches, and Fox lon one win and a lie. The aggregate were: Otaki 86 points, Foxton 66 points. A last v afternoon tea was dispensed by the indies , and at the close of play AH' Barr, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the home club for the pleasant outing, and expressed the hope that each year in the future would see aequaintanee--d,ip renewed in this manner. Cheers end tin* ringing of "For They are .lollv Good Fellows" followed. Mr freeman replied, and reciprocated the wish that Foxton and Otaki Clubs would renew the visits each year. y 3 One Foxton rink has entered for the Alanawatu Centre Tournament at Easter. The personnel will be: Winstanley, Christie, Thomson, Roore (s). Mr J. Xewth, contractor for relaying the ladies’ croquet court, new commenced the work. court was closed for play on AVednesday last. Given a reasonably good season and a good strike from the seed, the court will be greatly improved for play next season. The ladies have undertaken to raise the necessary funds to cover the cost of this work. They have already <lone well in this respect, and on Saturday tire holding another shop day to further supplement the fund. Their efforts are worthy of the best support of bowlers as apart from providing better conditions for their own pleasure, they are materially improving the Club’s property.
