BOXING.
InvotVargill, Last Night. The fifteen round professional light-weight contest between IT. I.ockie (Dunedin) and W. J. Sycamore (Invercargill) for a purse of lit) sows., was won by the former on points, the light going the full distance. Both men were evenly matched. and the contest resolved itself into a battle of styles, Sycamore preferring boxing of (lie fast order, while Leckie exploited his favourite inlighting tactics. Leckie was too clever for his opponent, and was ahead by a fair margin of points at the finish, although Sycamore made repeated hut fruitless altempts to land a knock-out over the final stages. The decision met with a mixed reception.
