Manawatu Herald TUESDAY, MARCH 31, 1925. MUNICIPAL ELECTION.

MITIIIX >l few weeks tin* bulge *ss<*s wil! he called upon to eleel a Mayor and nine ('mmeillnrs. The sitting .Mayor (Mr .John Chrvstall) is not seeking re -elect ion. nor are several of Ihe present Coiiiieiilors. For the Mayoralty, Cr. R. Bryant and Mr M. Perreau have signified llieir intuition to aspire to the civic chair. Rot'll are highly esteemed citizens, and have rendered good -ervice in tin public welfare. Cr. liryanl is well versed in municipal administration, and during the years he has served its a Councillor has been a member of the various Committees, which has enabled him to acquire a thorough knowledge of borough a flairs. Such service, npart from precedent, justifies his nomination and entitles him to a large measure of support. Mr Perreau has not picviously offered his services as a Councillor, and while this fact may not carry much weight with some, it may, nevertheless, prejudice his chances of success. Without desiring to depreciate Mr Perreau's laudable ambition to occupy the civic chair, we are of the opinion that a term on the Council would have been a more fitting qualifiation for the Mayoralty. However, it is a matter for the burgesses to decide. Success will depend upon the personal enterprise of the candidates. So far as the Council is concerned, there is no doubt that it will contain an infusion of new blood. The election promises to arouse a good deal of public, interest, which, it is. hoped, will result in the welfare of the borough.
