The Gisborne Chamber of Commerce, on Ihe motion of Gie president, passed a resolution: “That, in view of the United .States immigration restrictions of undesirable aliens and the consequent diversion of a stream of southern Europeans and others to the Southern Hemisphere, and the danger to New Zealand of an influx of low class labour, the Government be urged to immediately tighten up its regulations so as to coniine admission fo New Zealand to people of British birth.” A committee was set up to go into the question and to forward the resolution to the associated chambers.
