OTAKI SEAT.
LIBERAL CANDIDATE CHOSEN. Mr T. M. Wilford, on behalf of the executive of the Liberal-Labour Party, announces that Mr Charles Irvine Darkness, ot \Aeraroa, dairy farmer, is the Liberal-Labour candidate lor Otaki against the Reform member, Mr W. 11. Field, in the coming election. Mr G. R. McClure, who stood for that seat at last election. lias decided not to contest the seat on this occasion. Mr Wilford added: —“Mr Hark-iu.-s, who is 40 years of age and a practical dairy farmer, stood at the last general election as an Independent. He is a man who has alrcadv made his mark in local body work. In the last seven years lie has been a member of the Education Board, and for the same period a member of the Horowheuua County Council. He has therefore a first hand knowledge of the education and civic affairs of the electorate. As a practical dairy farmer and a member of the Dairy Farmers’ Union, he is a member of the provincial executive of that organisation, and president of the local branch. His knowledge of the district and his practical experience as a farmer should stand him in good stead in the coming contest. Mr Harkness is a ready speaker, and should poll well.”
