ALL RESTRICTIONS TO'REMAIN IN FORCE. HEALTH DEPARTMENT'S PRECAUTIONS. Wellington, Last Night. Sir Maui Pomnre, Minister of Health, informed a “Times” representative that Cabinet has decided that schools are not to lie re-opened nor other restrictions lifted, until after tho usual Easier vacation. As Easter Monday falls on April Lilli this year, this means that schools will not re-open till April 1-tth at lhe earliest. The matter will tie reconsidered by Cabinet a week before the dale mentioned with a view to deciding whether or no the re-opening of schools shall be still further postponed. “What we have to do," stated Dr. MrKihhii: (Director of Public Hygiene) is to ascertain what these late cases are like as regards severity. We are taking steps to do that as a guide to Ihe Department in regard to the maintenance or otlierwi.se of the rest fictions. • “There would he only one ground on which we could reasonably lift the rest fiction, and that would he that cases reported during Alarch and especially towards the end of the month, were mild.” Yesterday the secretary of the P.N. Caledonian Society (Mr W. McKenzie) wired the Health Department inquiring when the restrictions imposed on public gatherings consequent on the infantile paralysis epidemic would lie lifted and received the following reply: “Cabinet decided to-day that the restrictions are to continue till April 13th (Easter Monday). This may mean continuation after that date, hut consideration of the matter will he given on April (ith.” In view of this decision Mr McKenzie states that it is unlikely the Caledonian Sports will lie held on Master Monday. The matter will lie decided by the committee this week.
