VALEDICTORY.

Miss Beard, who recently resigned from the staff of the local State school to take up a position on the staff of the Ruannnga school, was entertained at a social by the Presbyterian church choir and congregation in the schoolroom on Thursday . evening. There was a representative attendance. At a suitable juncture in the proceedings, the Rev. Frank McDonald presented Miss Beard, on behalf of the choir, with a, copy of the Church Praise, and a cut g]ass toilet requisite. In making the presentation, Mr McDonald expressed regret at the guest’s departure. Miss Beard’s services to the church were not only restricted to the hoir, bill she had rendered valuable assistance to the Sabbath school, of which she was leader of the Bible Class, and she was also secretary of the church tennis club. Her willing and voluntary services were an example to others, while her pleasant and sympathetic nature had endeared her to all with whom she was acquainted. He conveyed to Miss Beard the best wishes of the church for her future happiness and prosperity. Miss Beard, after suitably acknowledging the gifts and kindly feelings which prompted them and good wishes expressed, received an ovation, .-musical honours and cheers.

- The Rev. Mr. McDonald said lie desired also to convey to Mr and Mrs J. K. Hornblow, who were about to take a trip to the Old Land and America, the good wishes of the congregation and God speed for a pleasant time and a safe return. jDuring the evening songs were contributed by Misses Patterson (2) D. Morgan, Messrs A. Reid and D. R. Bai-ron and recitation by Mi' J. K. Hornblow. The accompaniments were played by Misses Patterson and D.elany. An interesting competition was won by Miss Beard. An excellent supper was provided after which all united in singing “Auld Lang Syne.”
