The story of a dog and an egg comes from East Leake, near Loughborough, Leicestershire, A big ldack retriever, named Polo, belonging to Air Jackson, a local-fanner, says an exchange, lias shown a partiality for a pullet, while being on bad terms with the rest of the feathered. inhabitants of the farm Every morning the pullet lias walked over the dog’s back to the end of its kennel and laid'an egg. Peto immediately lias eaten it, shell and all. When iie was found out, an attempt was made to cure the dog by substituting an egg filled with mustard. Pefo, however, ate it and was not cured. The sequel of the purchase of a horse, cart and harness at auction jil Wanganui for 30s is not without interest. The new owner, either through lack of feed or out of generosity of heart, decided to make a. present of the equine to a friend. The-friend, of course was delighted, as old Dobbin was so quiet and had such a kindly look in his aged eye. All went well till Dobbin reached the vicinity of the gasworks. The gas fumes may have proved too much for Inn, for lie dropped dead in the street. It cost his owner something in the region of £2 to have him removed for decent burial.
