FOXTON SILVER BAND.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. A general meeting of members of the Foxton Silver Band was held last night in the hand room, presided! over by Mr J. Aitchison, president. There "was a full attendance including the trustees of the Carnival fund, Messrs D. W. Robertson, AYinstanley and Rider. Mr Madden (secretary) submitted the report and balance sheet, which were discussed at length. There was a tendency on the part of members to touch on subjects not relevant to the report and financial statement, which on several occasions became somewhat, personal. The points raised were as to whether the meeting was an annual general meeting, the appointing of trustees and that no annual meeting had been held. The chairman accepted a motion to make the meeting the annual general meeting. In reply to questions the chairman said he and Mr Golder had signed a bailment over the instruments and had been responsible for the liability. The liability had now been met and the members,' since balloted for, were now responsible, for any further liability. The band was, however, now free from debt, and well equipped.
Mr Golder contended that the trustees were not appointed by the public—the band as an incorporated body was its own trustees. It was pointed out that the trustees were appointed from the various carnival committees and their appointment was endorsed by the Band. They were to administer the funds raised by the carnival upon the objects for which the funds were raised.
In supporting the adoption of the report and ba'anee-sheet, Mr MeKcwon complimented the trustees on their work and for their services in straightening out the financial position.
Mr Robertson then read the statement of receipts and expenditure. The report and balance sheet was adopted unanimously and the trustees accorded a vote of thanks, which was carried by acclamation. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected: —Chairman: Mr J. Aitchison; bandmaster: Mr J. Golder; deputybandmaster: Mr Bc'tv; sergeant: Air. B. Walls; corporal: Mr 11. Newtli, s-vretary: Air J. Mi dden; treasurer: Air 11. Osborne; executive: the above named officers and Alessrs C. Rand, T. Ebbett and D. Brooks. REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET The balance sheet set out in detail the receipts and expenditure from all sources and disclosed a credit' balance of £285 5/3 in flic trust account and £Ol 7/0 in the general account and assets tot-all-• ing £039 18/0. The statement of receipts and expenditure were duly audited. The report, read ns follows: — “Your Committee has much pleasure in presenting the annual report. delayed owing to the officials' time being taken up in the teaching of new members, etc. It is practically a brief outline of the Band since its constitution some three years ago. In December, 1922, Air .T. Golder paid a deposit, of £99 2/10 for instruments and be, together with Air ,T. Aitchison, acted as guarantors to Begg and Co. for nine new silver instruments. These, together with the old brass instruments banded over by the Council, comprised the band equipment. The above deposit paid by Air Golder, lias since been paid bv the Band, and the balance of Begg and .Co.’s account has been paid from the Trust Account.
“From December 1922, until March, 1924, the Band business w.-.s conducted through the account of Mr J. Golder. In Mareli, 1924, the Band opened an account with the Bank of New Zealand and since then £1,316 13/7 has been passed through the books. “Near the end of last year (1924) a carnival organised by Miss M. Healey on a 15 per cent, basis was held for the purpose of equiping the band with uniforms, instruments etc., the nett takings of the same being £619 12/9. At the conclusion of the carnival, a deputation waited on the band and asked them to appoint three trustees to administer the funds raised by the carnival. This was done, Messrs Robertson, Winstanley, and Rider being appointed and the sum of £619 12/9 was paid over to the trust account. The Band has since been provided with uniforms and several new instruments and it is now on a very sound basis. There is a predit of £6l 7/8 in the General Account and £285 5/3 in the Trust Account.”
