REMARKABLE CASE OF WOULD BE MISSIONARY.
London, March 11. The Baptist Missionary Society reveals a remarkable case of a would-be missioner, who was rejected for service in Ihe Congo owing to ill-health. lie decided instead to go into business and to devote all his profits to the Society. This was a decade ago and he had already given .CJo.OOO. lie was twenty-five when the doctor retused to pass him. and he said: "1 have £75 loose money at the present moment, and will give it. As l cannot work myself. mv money shall work tor me. Though he began business without an\ capital, the next \ear he gave f ISO. the third year £l.lOO, Ihe sixth year .Co. 000; and the ten lb £I,OOB. In the year of his marriage. his -nihseription was Id.OOd. The man wrote saying that probable bis subsequent gifts would not be so large, but as a fact Ida next donation increased. In order to live, the mail pays himself a salary,* the books are audited and the Society-beuelUs to the last penny of profits.
