MISINFORMED.
This morning our esteemed Palmerston N. morning contemporary published the following: —“The way of the cyclist is not altogether an easy one as was evidenced by an incident that happened to a young rider well-known on the Levin track. Every week-end he has been in the habit of riding to his home at Levin from a distant town where he is employed. One night, clad in his training uniform, he went for a spin. All went well till he reached Foxton, where, however, he was taken into custody by a vigilant constable on suspicion of being an escapee from the Boys’ Training Farm at Weraroa. His protests were unavailing and he spent two hours in the police station while his identity was being established, eventually being released with apologies, and proceeded on his way with very strong opinions of the intelligence of the police force in general.” [VVE submitted the above to Constable Owen, officer in charge of the local police station, for verification. Constable Owen informed our representative that no person has at any time been taken into custody at Foxton on suspicion of being an escapee from the Boys’ Training Farm at Weraroa, and subsequently released. —Ed. H.]
