INFANTILE PARALYSIS.
CASE AT LOCAL SEASIDE. A case of infantile paralysis was admit fed to the hospital from the local seaside on Saturday. The patient is the three and a-luilf year old daughter of Air and Mrs Pullen, v. ho are temporarily residing at. the Beach and residents of Palmerston N. So far Foxton has kept clear of the epidemic. Four cases were admitted to the hospital last night from Levin —one a girl of 1G years of age. Upon enquiry at the Palmerston N. Hospital this morning we are informed that there are now 27 patients in the institution, Levin being chiefly responsible for the increase. Altogether 3U eases have been notified in the Palmerston N. Hospital district, three of which proved fatal. -Railway excursion tickets have been extended until one week after the re-opening of the schools. This applies to all children whether attending public or private schools while school boarders, who possess special concession tickets also benefit; the same extension. The decision also affects the school teachers, who on account of the schools remaining closed, desire an extension oi' the ordinary or holiday excursion tickets. PUBLIC SCHOOLS. ' RE-OPENING DATE NOT YET FIXED. The Wellington Education Board has advised that the date for the re-opening of public schools cannot yet he definitely fixed. This decision was arrived at after consultation with the health authorities. It may, lmwever, be stated that the opening date will not be before Afouday, February 23. When circumstances permit of a decision being reached, the date will at once lie widely announced in the Press. Carterton, February 9th. The first case o'f suspected infantile paralysis in Carterton was admitted to the Afasterton hospital Ibis morning, a baby girl, aged 16 months. Its parents were recenly in Palmerston N. and it is thought the infection was caught there. Wanganui, February 9th. Three cases of infantile paralysis were reported during the weekend. One ended fatally to-day. Napier, Last Night. A case of infantile paralysis of a Maori infant was admitted to the hospital to-day from Fernhill.
