INFANTILE PARALYSIS.
Another case, a girl aged 17 years, was admitted to the Palmerston N. Hospital from Levin yesterday. All the patients in the hospital arc progressing satisfactorily. Dunedin, Last Night. The district health officer stated 1 to-day that in connection with a suspected case of infantile paralysis in the city, it had been definitely proved that the patient was not suffering from the disease. The position otherwise remains unchanged. Masterton, Last-Night. An infant patient from the Borough was admitted to the hospital today. This makes a total of 23 since tlu- outbreak, 12 being from the borough and 11 from the Wairarapa district. INCREASED NOTIFICATIONS EXPECTED. Wellington, Last Night.The Council of the British Medical Association and the DirectorGeneral of Health have jointly promulgated in circular form to all medical practitioners in the Dominion concerning the symptomatology and a summary of the recent literature diagnosis of infantile paralysis. The importance of early detection and notification of mild and abortive cases of this disease Inis thus been emphasised. Doubtless this will have the effect of increasing the numbers of such notifications, but the step was deemed advisable, as an additional safeguard and check to the spread of (lie disease.
The public are advised of this in eider to allay any unnecessary atarm which may be created when the daily totals are thus swelled, for (lie apparent increase thus engendered hears no relation to the true morbidity and fatality of the epidemic which fortunately by one means and another, is being kept comparatively low in the areas affected. SEVEN MORE CASES IN AUCKLAND. Auckland, February 6. Seven cases of infantile paralysis were reported to-day, but there were no deaths.
