VITAL STATISTICS.
INTERESTING FIGURES. BIRTHS AND DEATHS, 1924. Full statistics of births and deaths for the whole Dominion for the year 1924 are not yet available, but figures for the fourteen urban areas which contain approximately 50 per cent of the total population of the Dominion, give a good indication of the general results. The urban areas, in the aggregate invariably have a somewhat lower birth-rate and somewhat higher fate of death than the Dominion as a whole. The figures for the five years 1919-23, with those for the urban areas for 1924 are as follow: — BIRTH RATE. Per 1,000 of Population.
1924 The birth figures for urban areas for 1924 taken in conjunction with the Dominion totals for the first, nine months of tho year, indicate that the general birthrate will bo slightly lower than that for 1923 and will in all probability approximate that for the year 1919, which is the lowest on record. The urban figures for deaths and infantile mortality mi the other hand, however, indicate that, the Dominion rates for 192-1 will he the lowest on record.
