RACING PERMITS.

We recently published the statement of an 'official in racing circles to the effect that in his opinion, too many racing permits were issued by the Government in this dominion. This statement is considered by local club members to be prejudicial to their agitation for an extra pmmit for a winter meeting for Foxton. The previously published statement however, was not meant to convey such an interpretation as to prejudice the local club. The point was that instead of granting extra permits the authorities could make a more equitable o stril-ution and in this connection the country clubs would come into their own. So far as Foxton is concerned there is no a more suitable course in New Zealand for a winter meeting by reason of the sandy nature of the track and other facilities provided for the public but owing to the pull of the bigger centres such claims to consideration are overlooked. The club, however, is endeavouring to have its claim to a winter meeting given a fair hearing from the recent issue of increased permits.
