LEVIN-FOXTON-MARTON RAILWAY LEAGUE.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of Ihe Executive of the above League was held in Levin on Wednesday. Present: Messrs J. Chryslall (chairman), D. W. Matheson, and A. C. Holms (lion, secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs D. Christie and A. Tv. Drew. The financial statement, showing receipts from donations as £-13 10/6 and expenditure as £lB 13/-, revealing a credit balance at the hank of £24 17/6, was adopted. Additional aeconnls for payment totalling £8 were passed and an amount of £2l left in the hands of the chairman with power to act. The chairman generously donated £lO to the League funds. The secretary slated that several other donations additional to those already received and acknowledged, 1 ad been promised. Approval was expressed as to the statement addressed to the Press in jbe secretary in regard to the Commission's report, and the resolution passed by the Levin Chamber of Commerce at its meeting of January 20th in the same connection. The chairman remarked that the League had suffered a temporary set hack, but should proceed steadily toward its ultimate goal. It was moved by Ihe Chairman, seconded by Mr Matheson, “That the Executive records disappointment as to file Commission’s finding believing that same was not consistent with the admitted merits of (he case presented, and invites close examination of the facts and figures prepared, on the part of Ihe railway Board recently constituted. It. is the opinion of (lie League that the Commissioners did no|, have adequate time in which to fully congjder the link alternative to (he Palmerston X. <!( vial ion."—Carried.
It was decided to forward copiqs of above resolution to the Prime Minister, Minister of Public Works and Railways and Messrs Field, J. Linklater and Glenn, M.’sP.
Mr Holms moved “That the ap-pMu-inlion of the Executive he expressed as concerning the co-opera-tion of local bodies, chambers of commerce, and a number of leading individual supporters, in promoting the link objective; the district Press to ho thanked for space devoted, and Messrs W. H. Field, ,J. Linklater, W. S. Glenn, M.’sP., and Hon. Edward Newman, M.L.C., also thanked for services rendered, and financial assistance. That Mr Field be accorded a special expression of appreciation Lor very active assistance as an associate member of the Executive. — Carried. It was decided “that the Executive recommends the League to consider fully the desirability of issuing a pamphlet outlining the essential features of the link movement, the evidence submitted to the Royal Commission on December 6th, H 124, and supplementary matter, with mails and returns to be included; also, containing efforts to promote the £SOO propaganda fund, by holding meetings throughout the Horowhenua, Manawatu, Rangitikei centres immediately concerned in this national and local objective.” The Chairman and Mr Matheson again raised I lie question of secretarial remuneration, in expressing appreciation as lo the services rendered, but in deference io (he wishes of Mr Holms, a decision was held over.
