ARTILLERY CAMP.

l!Hh BATTERY OX THE RACECOURSE.

To-day the 1 !tlh Battery. New Zealand Artillery entrained by the Xew Plymouth express at Wellington for Foxton, where the annual eight days training course will he carried out. Thf strength of the battery is seven officers and 130 other ranks, under the command of Ma jor Ilaughton, who will have with him Captain Fenton, Liertenants Keen, Anderson, Monas, and Second Lieutenants Jenkins and Mitchell Captain Farr is chief instructor and adjutant. The battery is equipped with 60-pounder guns, from which 70 rounds will be tired in addition to which 200 rounds will he fired from 0-pounder guns for practice purposes. The big shoot will take place on Friday, under service conditions, at a range of approximately 7 miles. Continuous night parades have been held during the last fortnight, and as a result of the splendid attendances of all ranks, a very high standard of efficiency has been reached, which will he greatly increased by the end of the camp.-Thii ty horses will be available and will Pliable field manoeuvres to be carried out. On Wednesday afternoon an “at home” will he held at which residents of Foxton and Palmerston X., and any friends of members of the battery will be entertained and given an opportunity of seeing the battery at work and play. The local public, will do their share towards making the camp pleasurable for the men. The Rev. W. 11. Walton will be. Chaplain and parade services will be held each Sunday at II a.m. in All Saints’ Church. On March 14th the 18th Battery from Wellington will arrive in camp. The Venera hie Arch-deacon Watson will he Chaplain and will hold his parade service in All Saints’ Church. The Foxton Silver Band has consented to head the parades each Sunday. Mr Colder, the conductor, has made arrangements for suitable music.
