BOWLING.

During the present season endeavours have been made to find a system of play governing the Nye Ferns which would he satisfactory to all concerned. To this end the Committee cancelled the old system of challenges early in the season and instituted a method by which all members present at a stated time on Wednesdays had their names submitted to .ballot for the purpose of selecting a challenging team. This method proved unsatisfactory in practice and later new regulations were formulated whereby players were arranged in permanent teams and were to play each other rink in rotation according to ballot, and the rink having the greatest number of wins to their credit at the end of the season were to be the holders of the trophies for the ensuing year. Owing to inter-club fixtures monopolising the earlier part of the season, and also for other reasons, these later regulations were never put into practice. The season being now well advanced, the Committee have thought it wise to revert entirely. to the old conditions for the remainder of the season (viz. the system of free challenges), and the first match to decide the holders will be between rinks arranged and skipped by the donor (Air Nye) and vice-president, Air Smith. A minimum of two games per week is to be played—one on Wednesdays and one on week nights.

The Saturday players have signified their intention of taking part in the Nye Ferns games by entering challenges for evening play. It is understood, of course, that Saturday players will not actually hold the trophies if successful in defeating their opponents, but will be content to regiser the win and enjoy tlie honours of victory. All rinks contesting the Nye Ferns will be composed of two “A” and two “B” players. Alembers with Ferns in their possion are asked to hand them in by to-morrow.
