“SEABURY STREET.”
(To The Editor). Sir, —I notice that names are being given to certain roads which are .on the seaside plan, but are yet to he made. There is one name which, in my opinion, should be perpetuated in connection with (he seaside, and that is the late Mr Sea bury, for many years pilot, under the Marine Department and one of the whitest of men, respected by all who came into contact with him and a. pilot of the highest qualifications and experience. What I_ suggest is that the road which will be the principal thoroughfare, turning off at the first bend and continuing along past the pilot’s old residence, and coming out on the old river bed, should be named after him.' There are two members of the Harbour Board who can speak on the appropriateness of this suggestion because they knew the late Mr Seabury. I refer to Messrs J. A. Nash, M.P., and Mr W. -Signal. I hope this suggestion, sir, will be given consideration by the Board. —Your, etc. OLD TIMER. Dear Sir, —In Saturday’s issue of your estimable paper I read with great pleasure the account of an address given by Mr J. H. Taylor, Bristol, “Great Golfer on Games, Value to Soul and Body.” It verifies all the arguments in favour of the “Daylight Saving Bill.” When first I visited your glorious country, the only thing that impressed me unfavourably was the shortness of the hours of recreation for the workers. I found that the majority of young people were unable to indulge in any game in the evening; I speak generally of the large towns, but even in a place like Foxton. where homes are nearer the places of business, games could be played an hour or two longer. Undoubtedly it is of vital importance that our young people partake of exercise, the more the better, the health of the nation calls for it. — Yours etc. One who appreciates your beautiful Climate and Country.
