DEGENERATION OF CIVILISED WOMEN.
ATTACK ON MODERN FOODS. London, December 28.' “The primary factor in the development of cancer is the degeneration of civilised woman,” writes Sir William Arbuthnot Lane, the famous surgeon, in the “Franco-British Medical Review.” He savs: “The poor, badly nourished thing has lost most of the normal physical characters which are such a marked feature of the magnificently-built savage. Her capacity to bear and produce children has become complicated by much trouble and innumerable sequelae, which often make her life miserable. Her sexual character is very defective, and she is degenerating in size.
“The vast majority of women are puny, insignificant; their brains are over-stimulated by so-called education and by unsuitable food and drugs. Unable to provide sufficient nourishment for their offspring, they are obliged to depend on the deleterious combinations supplied by the food chemists. “Tlieir unfortunate children deprived of suitable food, become constipated, and their tissue are devitalised by poisons absorbed from the intestines. Their teeth are consequently defective and their noses and throats are invaded by organisms which produce adenoids, large tonsils and pyorrhoea owing to the inability of the poisoned tissues to resist the invasion of disease germs.
“Woman is the chief victim of civilisation, for which she is indebted to the crass stupidity of man. Civilised woman has been subser T vient to man for centuries, and not allowed to participate in the making of the laws which control the community and the health of people.” The “Dispatch” interviewed Sir Arbuthnot Lane, who said”: “The ignorance of men and women on all questions relating to foods is the primary factor in the development uf. cancer. I would like to see a society formed to prevent cancer by teaching the people what foods they can safely eat and what they should avoid. The peasantry in , the North of India, where cancer is practically unknown, never touch meat, and live mainly on bread made of wholemeal flour. White bread is not food; it is a sham, and the source of physical degeneration, illhealth, and disease. Woman’s craze for a ‘silhouette figure’ is a grave danger to'themselves and the future race.
“Women, in trying to look like boys, destroy the character of their sex. Rubber corsets and similar contrivances for reducing the size of the hips and. chest, will prove most deleterious for the future of the race. They interfere with nutrition, and are liable to cause degeneration of the most important organs, and women thereby expose thmselves to the danger of tumours and cancers. The trouble is that women are much more apelike and more imitative than men. They do these things because other women do them. Can yon imagine men wearing red waistcoats or taking up a similar fad just because someone else has done so?”
