SIR MAUI POMARE ON THE HOSPITAL QUESTION.
Wellington, December 18. The Minister of Health (Sir Maui Pomare) has defined his attitude on the question of the right of admission to public hospitals and on their control. “Why should not the rich man.” he asks, “who contributes by taxation to the establishment and upkeep of public hospitals, have the benefit of the facilities of institutions which he pays for —facilities which very few private hospitals pos sess 1 Is there any reason why public hospitals should be kept only for the poor people?” The Minister agrees if anyone of means desires special facilities in way of private accommodation, or extra nursing, that person should he made to pay for these extra attentions hut at the same time, lie holds that such people should have full right to go into public hospitals for treatment.
