ELECTROCUTED.
FATALITY AT AIANGAHAO. William Russell Alnithews, who came in contact with a live wire carrying 11,000 volts, at. Mangahao \ csterday, was electrocuted. Matthews, who was only 23 years of age, was employed in the fitting department. At 7.30 yesterday morning, he was carrying out an instruction which brought him in contaet with one of the electric wires, carrying the full voltage. He was badly burned on the body and the shock caused him to fall a distance of six or eight feet, thereby sustaining a fracture at the base of'the skull.
He was removed by ambulance to the Palmerston N. hospital in an unconscious condition. It could be seen that there was tittle hope of his recovery, and he passed away at 4.45 p.m., without regaining consciousness.
The deceased, who had been connected with the Mangahao scheme for two years, was a single man, and the eldest son of Mr and Mrs James S. Matthews, of Cuba St., Palmerston N. An inquest will be held.
