CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Fox ton Chamber of Commerce was held in the Town Hall supperrooms on Thursday night, presided over by Mr Christie (president). There were also present: Messrs A. N. Smith, F. Woods, J. S. Moir, C. A. Pearson, J. Ross, G. T. WoodrooPc, T. W. Winstanley and the secretary (Mr McMurrayJ. CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows: From Mr E. .J. Brittain, Auckland, re playground area for Foxton. —Held over, pending enquiries being made re donation from Carnival Committee by Mr Winstanley. From Chamber of Commerce, Leicester, England, re handbook on material handling economies for complimentary distribution. —Left in hands of secretary-
From tile Eketahuna Chamber, staling: i “Teachers at the local schools are being repeatedly changed after varying and, in some cases, very short terms of service; that very frequently relieving . teachers only are sent, and that changes are made at any time during the year. We consider this principle is greatly against efficient work from both the teachers and (particularly) the scholars. We arc writing to the Education Board to request that, as a general rule, teachers are changed only at the end of a year. We shall be very glad to have your support in this matter.” —Endorsed and referred to the School Committee. Correspondence was received from the Canterbury Steam Shipping Co. and it was decided to write that company, assuring them of the Chamber’s wholehearted support in matters pertaining to shipping.
