THE CARNIVAL.
The Carnival Queen voting contest closes at 10 o’clock to-night. Instructions for committee secretaries are contained in the official column in this issue. The coronation of tlie successful queen candidate will lake place in (he Town Hall mi Thursday next, 4th December. The Executive have now appointd thereo trustees for the administration of the Carnival funds, and at the conclusion of the whole business a detailed balance-sheet will lie drawn up and published: Secretaries of queen committees and sellers of tickets in connection with the watch-guessing competition are reminded that they must forward the butts of sold tickets to the Carnival office before 10 o’clock this evening, to have them receipted, cheeked and recorded in the hooks of the Carnival Treasurer (Mr Rider) as a safeguard to sellers that the value of tlie sold tickels have been duly recorded and paid jo (be credit of queen candidates. The books containing unsold tickets will ln* re-circulated .on Monday, when safes can be continued for flic time-guessing competition. and for the free trip prize. The final date for handing in hooks and butts in January 31st next. The Bandmaster intends in consideration of the subsidy granted by the Borough Council, and the generous support accorded the band during the carnival period, to arrange an annual concert for the benefit of the public hospital funds, and also for the local Plunket Society, and any other charitable cause.
