UNITED SPORTS ASSOCIATION.
DATE OF SPORTS ALTERED. An executive meeting of the above Association was held in the Racing Club office on Thursday night, presided over by Mr Jewell (president). Also present were Messrs'W. E. Barber, R. Bryant, S. Austin, M. E. Perreau, D. Christie, A. N. Smith, C. A. Pearson, D. Ogilvy and F. Rimmer (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mi' H. Hutchins. The canvassing committee reported that the canvass for a guarantee of a certain sum of money if the meeting was made amateurprofessional, as against purely amateur, was move than successful. Air Barber reported on an interview he had had with Captain Stevens, who would be in charge of a camp, to be held on the racecourse during the week, on the Saturday of which the Association had decided to hold its sports meeting.
Captain Stevens, who was present said he would not recommend the Association to hold their sports on the Saturday referred to, as the Battery would either be moving into, or vacating camp on that day. It was unfortunate that the Defence authorities could # not altgr their arrangements, but be assured the meeting that he would be only too pleased to give every assistance to the Association possible if the meeting was held on any other day during the j>eriod of the camp. Next year the authorities would take into consideration local fixtures when making arrangements for the camps. He would promise to put on tabloid sports and give a demonstration with the howitzers on the sports day if altered .to another day. A motion was then passed by the unanimous vote of the meeting, to reconsider the matter of the date on which to hold the forthcoming sports. The matter was then fully discussed, the opinion being expressed that ihe added attraction of a military display would more than make up for any loss that might be incurred by changing the day from a Saturday to a Wednesday. It was unanimously decided to rescind the motion (hat- the meeting he held on a Saturday in February. !l was decided, on the motion of Messrs Barber and Pearson, that the sports meeting lie held on Wednesday. 18th February. 1920. Matters in connection with the drawing up of a programme for the sports were then discussed and it was decided to wait until the military portion of the programme was received from Captain Stevens before going any further.
