METHODIST JUBILEE.
The following resolution passed at the Alethodist Synod recently held at Palmerston N. has been forwarded to the minister and officials of the local Church by Rev. P. J. Cossum, Synod secretary. “That the Synod learns with interest and pleasure that this is the fiftieth year of the history of our Church in Foxton, and heartily congratulates the Methodists of that town and district on the attainment of their church jubilee. The Synod rejoices in i he good work whii-li lias been accomplished by our Church through all those years and earnestly prays that the Divine blessing may continue to rest upon their labours.” In all probability the Church Jubilee will be celebrated-early next year, when it is anticipated ’ that there will be a large re-union of those interested. It was at first thought that the approaching anniversary of the Sunday School would be the Jubilee of that institution. But as to this there is some doubt. Unfortunately valuable records that might have made the matter quite plain were burned when the original building in Alain St. was destroyed by fire. The school records compiled by AD’ E. Osborne and now in possession of Airs G. Huntley (secretary of the school), date the commencement of the school as from 1876. However, some of the early workers are being communicated with and it is expected that the date will be definitely settled.
