BOWLING.

TRIANGULAR SHIELD CONTEST r LJie first round of tlie Triangular Shield contest was played at Levin yesterday afternoon. The conditions for play were good, with the exception that towards the close of the game light rain fell, but did not interfere much with the play. Owing to Nye being unable to make the trip, a slight alteration in the local rinks was necessary, Winstanley playing lead for Roore, and Smith taking Nye’s position, as skip. Harris was unable to play for Levin, and von Hartitsche played third to Inder in that rink. In the game Smith v. Inder, the scores stood at 18 all on the twentieth head, after a strenuous game, and the twenty-first was an excellent piece of play, which resulted in Inder getting the decision by two points. Roore’s rink did not show good form, with the exception, perhaps of Winstanley, who lead fairly consistently throughout. At times the heads were “wild and woolly,” which drew forth jocular comment from onlookers. The details are as follows: — Levin. —Hosie, Derham, SrnaAll, Clements (s), 26. Foxton.—Winstanley, Mattar, Huntley, Roore (s) 15. Levin. —Clements senr., Routley, von Hartitsche, Inder (s), 20. Fox-ton.-—Walker, Pearson, Christie, A. N. Smith (s) 18. Levin.—Pink, Sulntn, Pyke, Hawke (s) 24. Shannon. —Clayton, Murray, Roach, Knowles (s), 12. Shannon.—B. Spencer, Bovis, Gunning, E. Spencer (s), 33. Levin —Challies, Brown, Percy, Bull (s) 12. The totals for the first round are as follows:—Levin, 'B2 points; Shannon, 45 points; Foxton, 33 points. The percentage for Levin is, of course, 41, which actually leaves the position thus: Shannon, Levin, Foxton. The second_ round will be played at Foxton next Wednesday, when Levin and Shannon will send two rink each, and Foxton will be obliged to put four rinks in the field.
