UNITED SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

An executive meeting of the hove association was held in the Racing Club offices on Thursday night. Present; Messrs Jewell (in tin chair), W. E. Barber, R. Bryant, 11. Hutchins, M. E. Perreau, S. Austin,-C. A. Pearson, A. X. Smith, Robinson, Parkin, and the secretary (Mr F. Rimmer).

The question of whether the Association could make a charge at the gate for their sports if the military authorities were in charge of the racecourse at the time, was brought up by Mr Hutchins. —Decided that MrR. Bryant interview Captain Pollard on the matter.

It was moved'by Mr R. Bryant, seconded by Mr H.’Hutchins, ‘“that the forthcoming sports meeting be an amateur-professional meeting, the previous resolution on the books to the effect that it be an amateur meeting be rescinded.” In support of the motion Mr Bryant said that it would be necessary to make the meeting an amateur professional oae to derive any profit from it. If it was run on the same lines as last year the Association would end up just clear and be no further ahead. Mr Smith considered the time was not opportune for making the meeting a semi-professional one. By so doing the Association would have to lay out a considerable sum for prize money and he did not- think the extra at tendance that might result from such action would warrant the expenditure. A general discussion ensued and it was finally decided thaf.,the motion he untended to read as follows: ‘•That the forthcoming sports meeting lie an amateur-professional one, provided t!u Association’s rules allow the previous motion ‘that the meeting lie amateur’ to be rescinded; and further, that a guarantee be :: t ranged.” This motion was then igit and carried. It was decided that a committee consisting' of Messrs Smith, Bryant and Perreau wait on the townspeople re raising a guarantee.
