GAMBLING FACILITIES.
INCREASE DEPLORED. The following resolutions were carried at yesterday’s session of the Hawke’s Bay-Manawatu Methodist District Synod at Cuba St. Church: “The Synod records its sense of shame and indignation at the present decision of Parliament in granting additional racing permits and thus granting increased, facilities for gambling. We cannot but view' with alarm the increasing mania for gambling in the community, and condemn the evil principle of State legislation under which totalisator betting, art unions, and raffles flourish.”
“In view of the swift and insidious growth of gambling in the Dominion, we again urge the necessity for definite instruction being given in our Sunday schools and young people’s societies on the evils of: gambling.”
