DROWNING FATALITIES.

YOUTH DROWNED AT PALMERSTON NORTH. A youth named Allan Drummond, aged IS years was drowned lust evening while bathing in the Manawatu river near the Esplanade. All efforts to recover the body failed last night. The deceased, together with several friends cycled to the river after work, and entered the water. No indication of his being in difficulties was given to his friends, who state that upon hearing a peculiar gurgling sound, they looked around and failed to find their comrade. The water was chilly and it is surmised that Drummond contracted cramp. WAIROA FATALITY. Wairoa, Last Night. Edwin Barry, warehouseman, employed by Sargood, Son and Ewen, Wellington, while on a holiday visit to Wairoa to-day went for a swim late this afternoon. He got into difficulties and despite rescue attempts was drowned. The body lias not been recovered.
