Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1924 A DANGEGROUS BEND.
NUMEROUS minor and some si-ri-mis accidents have been recorded a! at’ awkward bend of the road leadin" off Russell St. and on to the mil way crossing. It' the road was a continual ion of Russell St., tints avoiding the bend, the risk of accidents would be avoided. Fortunately none of the numerous mishaps have ended fatally, although in one at two ease®personal injuries have been sustained which will seriously handicap several victims for the rest of their lives. The cost of straightening this road is a mere bagatelle, but it is under dual control. The Borough Council shares the responsibility with the Manawitlu County Council. From the sand dune cutting opposite Victoria Bark, the kind along the eastern side is within the Manawatu County and along the west taking in the racecourse, is within the borough. Crossing the railway line, the main road is declared a main highway. The cost of straightening the road, a distance of about three or four chains, would not ‘exceed possibly CSO, iis the, foundation presents no difficulties and there is ample metal on the bend to provide the necessary surface. We hope the Borough Council, in the interests of public safety, will take dclinite steps at Monday’s meeting to have this work put in hand and thus prevent further mishaps and possible loss ol life.
