GAMING BILL PASSES.
THIRD READING CARRIED. Wellington, October 29. 'Hie ihird reading of the Gaming BUI occupied the House last evening. The debate continued till after midnight. After the telegraph office closed .Messrs Jordan and Hockley briefly addressed the House. The question that the Gaming Bill be read a third time, Avas then put and agreed to without division. The Bill passed and the House rose at 2.20 till 2.30 this afternoon. UPPER HOUSE ASSENTS. PUBLICATION OP DIVIDENDS APPROVED. Wellington, Last Night. The Gaming Bill was brought up in the Legislative Council to-day and Sir Francis Bell elected to try to put it through at one sitting. . He said the principal clause of the Bill proposed to increase trotting permits by 19 and racing permits by 12. He appealed iff tbe Council not to amend the Bill, for fear of further 1 rouble when it,-went back to the oilier House. Hon. Sir Edwin Milelielson said lie would support (lie Bill and said the Government had left out clauses that should never have been left cut. One or tAVO clauses that Avere in the Bill of lasi year, notably that in respect to dealing with undesirables at racecourses, was omitted at pre sent, If a man who had been ejected from a course Avent back once more [be same day, he could not again be ejected. Last year’s Bill provided for getting over-this difficulty. Tie contended that to allow money In he telegraphed .to (he machine would he ;i big blow to ilnbookmakers.
Hon. W. ff. Mclntyre supported the Bill and aUo favoured (lie wiring of money to the machine, and the puhlicaiioM of dividends. Sir Edwin Mitrhelson in sup porting Ihe Bill, said that one. of his reasons was that he hoped that its passage would result in another trolling permit for the Westland .Club. Hon. V. Rood said lrt> would sup poii the Bill heeau.se North Auckland needed more permits. Trige-.s, advocated the puhlication of dividends and said he would move to that effect. Tbe Rill was passed by 23 to 7.
