LEVIN-MARTON RAILWAY.
MW FIELD SUGGESTS FRESH SURVEY OF THE ROUTE. INTERVIEW WITH THE MINISTER. The following telegram was received by the ideal Chamber of Commerce from Air \Y. H. Field, M.P., yesterday: — “Linklafer and 1 interviewed the Minister <>f Railways yesterday. The -Minister refuses a further survey of the line and says that the route has already been explored and that the facts and ligures will be placed before the Commission. Suggest that the League employ its own engineer and also obtain Air Hilev's evidence.”
A meeting of the Council of the Chamber of. Commerce will be held this evening at 7.30 o'clock to further discuss the question.
It may be explained that a survey of the line was made and the League engaged Messrs Toogoud, Jones and Holmes, engineers, for this purpose and plans were drawn up and circulated together with other information and approximate cost of the work. All this was fully explained to the Prime Minister and Minister for Railways and other members of a Parliamentary Party who were taken over the route by the League some three years ago. The final meeting on that occasion was held in the goods shed at Greatford. The. suggestion that AH Hiley flute general-manager of Railways) should give evidence is a good one.
