TRAINING CAMP OX RACE COURSE.
The Defence Central Military Command have been in communication with Ibc Foxton Racing Club tc the use of the racecourse for mili larv training purposes next month. 'Tin* Club has nol only given its consent for tin- use of I lie imhiiv and
appointments, but lias signified its willingness to assist in any way possible lo make the camp a pleasurable outing for the men. In a Idler from !lend<|Unrtcrs, we ure informed tliai the proposal is io train the Batteries on the racecourse and to commence with the 7tli Battery from Palmerston North about November 29tb. If successful and the range proves suitable for the guns, the Slit Battery will follow and then the two heavy batteries from Wellington (oth and Howitzers and (if) pounders). Special attention has been given to the range, along the coast, over which the guns will send their projectiles.
Major J’owles in a note to the editor, recalls the fad that he had the pleasure of camping on the local racecourse with the Mounted Rille-' in 1912 or 19.13,'and refers to the hospitality of the Foxton people, “who were then very good to us.” \Ye can assure the authorities that the Foxton and district people will do I heir best lo make the camp life of the officers and men pleasurable during their stay.
